MG TD TF 1500 - Epoxy Repair
I'm about to do some minor chip repair to a steering wheel centerpiece. I need to fill chips along the base. I was wondering what the best expoxy would be to fill the plastic. I have filled many a metal piece with JB Weld, then sanded smooth, but not on plastic. Info on any good epoxy choices for this, readily available at major stores, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Larry |

larry, have you investigated the steering wheel repair kits eastwood sells? i have used those with good results. regards, tom |

Tom, I'm familiar with them, but these are really small chips, so the price of the kits for such a small job is a consideration. Thanks Larry |

You would want a filler that is as hard/soft as the wheel plastic...don't want to sand and have the softer material sand away more then the filler! Sorry, not sure what you should use! |

Thanks Gordon. I would assume that a filler suitable for fiberglass would be a reasonable choice. I'll see what I can come up with. Larry |

Found this in the archives under "bakelite repair." "I repaired mine with a two-part marine epoxy putty I got at Lowes. The putty is like a clay after mixed and forms very well, and can be sanded smooth and to shape, and hardens very well" Sounds like just what I need. Cheers Larry |

I used a putty epoxy from Home depot which seems to have worked, so I will be finishing the centerpiece soon. I have some leftover Moss Bronze that I will use to match, but I' didn't follow with clear coat last time I used it as it was basically a touch up. The Moss ad nor the can itself state whether it's enamel or laquer, so I need to know what type of clear coat to use. Can anyone familiar with this paint advise? Cheers Larry |

Test spray a sample on something else and try the clear-coat. You may want to also spray a sealer primer over your repair before painting color coat. Dallas |

you should always be able to use an enamel clear over laquer paint, but not vice versa. |
