MG TD TF 1500 - Ex Elise owner needs advice
I have just sold my Elise on the basis that I want something a little less comprimising and a more user friendly. (As a 45 year old i have, in the last 10 years, graduated through Superbikes to Caterhams to Elises) I am seriously looking at MG TF 160's as this I feel will give me added comforts over an Elise that I am looking for. I am also strangley more attracted due to the recent Rover demise. (At least there is no drastically changed new model about to appear!) So what advice can you give and what are the biggest differences and advantages over the Elise? I have a budget of 11K max. Look forward to your comments |

I'll tell him this,"Esef, anybody that has been thru what you have listed above would not be happy with an mgtf (or any other older MG for that matter). The emotional satisfactions of owning/driving/repairing an MG are nowhere related to the emotional satisfactions of Super bikes or Caterhams." That's just my opinion after 49yrs of MG owning/driving/repairing, and also having had cafe racer Yamaha's and BSA's (still have a BSA) and Honda's. Greg & Grimm |

Esef, The real MG TF's were built in the 1950's and had nothing to do with Rover, Dave |

Esef, it seems the significance of the '160' in your post has escaped peoples attention so far. If you repost this on the MGF board you will get a better response. For 11K you should be able to find a very nice MG TF 160. I have never even sat in an Elise, but some of the differences will be: A boot big enough to hold luggage for a two week trip for two people. A slightly less harsh ride (I assume the Elise suspension is a tad firm!). A hood the you can drop and raise in 10 seconds. The 1.8 VVC K-series engine is the same as the Elise, so you know about that. I have a 2003 MG TF 120, and have not driven a 160, but the (new) TF is a very good little sports car that will perform quite respectably even compared to the Elise. I have only been a passenger in an old TF, and these are also a nice little sports car. If only I could afford one, and was not quite as tall as I am, I might be tempted.... :-) Go for it. |

I propose you buy a TD, not a TF. Denis |

Shows my lack of knowledge - I meant a 2004 model !! |
