MG TD TF 1500 - Fix it with 'Glue'.

I recently had the square end fitting shear off of the the speedo cable. I opted to see if it was possible to bond the fitting back onto the cable. I drilled out what was left of the cable and then soaked the cable end and fitting in MEK to remove any oil or grease.
Using Loctite 620 and its activator/primer I bonded the parts back together and applied a little heat to cure. 3000 miles later its still going strong.
I also used this system to bond in my brass sleeves on my brake cylinder rebuild. This stuff is so good, I understand that you can bond steel cylinder liners into alum. blocks with it. Its hard to find a source (industrial supply house) for the stuff but well worth the looking.

Colin - that is reminiscent of a boss I had years ago, his standard answer to anything that was broke was "5 minute epoxy"! Your fix sounds like a very good answer to a lot of problems. If that loctite 620 is what I think it is, it is sold in better auto parts houses as sleeve and bearing retainer. - Dave

Dave...I have never found it at an auto parts store, but I have a friend at Loctite. One word of caution, if you are bonding anything that has copper in it, (brass)do no use the 620 catalyst as it sets off the bond time in a few seconds. I had this trying experience when I went to put the long brass sleeve in the rear brake cylinders. The Loctite cooked off before it was fully seated. I had to mill out the sleeve and redo the whole thing.
