MG TD TF 1500 - Floor Board Fastening
OK, sorry to pepper the board with questions, but as my reassembly proceeds, I keep running into areas where the workshop manual is no help. When I removed the floorboards, they were fastened inboard with machine screws that go into captured nuts on the angle iron pieces on both sides on the propshaft tunnel. In addition, there are a couple of screws on the pedal box and front bulkhead. I also put a few bolts on the back edge through the tie bar, matching the holes in the floorboards that I bought from a reputable maker. On the outboard edges of the floorboards, there are several holes in the floorboards about 9" apart. It looks like these holes exit above the main longitudinal wood (whatever its called). Possibly these are for wood screws that go through the floorboard and into the long piece? The floorboards I pulled out also had these holes, but nothing was in them. The hardware kit I bought from Moss did not include any wood screws. Not a big surprise, since it seems that the car was put together by the PO with the minimum amount of hardware to keep it from flying apart on a leisurely drive. If you hit a bump, all bets were off. So finally, here is my question. Do I screw in the outside edges of the floorboard? I hesitate to start drilling pilot holes until I know whether to do this or not. If I do use wood screws, what size? It looks like #10 is about right, or possibly #8. Thanks in advance for any help or advice. MB |

Forgot to add: car is a 1955 TF (RHD), but the floor should be the same for all TD-TFs. |

Thanks, Evan. That's just what I needed! I am impressed with the helpfulness of T-series owners. |

Evan: Send them to me and I can post them on the mgtf site. Seems that this is a popular subject. Chris BTW you floorboard purists will want to use mahoganey plywood rather than the popular pine. |
