MG TD TF 1500 - Fog lamps & tool kit & wheels, oh my ! 55TF1500

I am interested in finding fog lamps & an orginal tool kit for my 1955 TF1500.
Also any information on getting my wire wheels crome plated.

You live quite close to Dayton Wheels. Think about purchasing new wheels from them. The spokes are stainless steel and a much better idea than chrome.
To chrome your existing wheels properly they will need to be totally stripped so that all parts can be chrome plated individually.
A problem which can occur with chromed spokes is that dampness can penetrate the smallest crack in the chrome [e.g. stone chip] and the spoke can then be rusting beneath the chrome.
Stainless steel seems a much better way to go.If you don't wish to pay out for new wheels you could purchase new stainless spokes and have your existing rims and centres chromed.
I suspect it would be cheaper to sell your existing wheels and purchase new Daytons.

John ,
Thank you...that sounds like a smart way to go ..lets me keep the orginals..but look @ the shinny's!
I keep looking at her wondering what she would look like with shinny new shoes....but reluctant to change the orginals. Why didn't I think of that?

I don't know how your reply to me came up with my name and address as the heading on it!
If you do go ahead and purchase Dayton wheels for your TF I suggest you consider their sixty spoke wheels.
They offered two 15 inch wheels for the TF and,if their part number system has not changed, they are:
Part#D450 which is 48 spoke with a 15x4 inch rim and
Part#D452 which is 60 spoke with a 15x41/2 inch rim.
The 60 spoke rims look better than the original 48 spoke and the extra 1/2 inch in rim width is a help with modern radials.
I do not have chrome wheels but changed over to 60 spoke wheels some years ago for the extra feeling of security in competition events.

David, I think John is right on the wheel idea. I run 60 spoke wheels on my TF. There are usually some lamps on eBay. One should be a driving lamp, and one a fog lamp. I wired mine in with my turn signals, so I can be seen. I wired the driving lamp in with my dip switch, so it comes on with my bright lights, goes off when head lamps are dimmed, and put the fog lamp on the accessory switch on the dash. This arrangement has work very satisfactory. I also put extra ground wires in when I did the wiring. I have a set of original tools, all correct, ie King Dick, Dunlop, etc in an original tool roll, and a second set, all correct, in a reproduction tool roll. I might be persuaded to part with one or the other, but definitely not cheap. Thanks, Larry

Larry:
What exactly would you be talking as "definitely not cheap"? I have a 1950 and an original tool roll, but not all of the tools (it seems my dad "lost" some of them since 1953)!
