MG TD TF 1500 - Front indicators - a different option

There is a current thread running about led bulbs

Rather than divert that topic....and so people can search archives easier

Someone posted a note about a small parts supplier in the UK called Paul Goff

You might be interested to know that he supplies quite an interesting LED bulb that I am putting in the front sidelights of my TD.

It is a bright white forward facing LED but when the indicators are on it disconnects the white light and flashes bright Orange LED's.

I have no clue (neither do I care), about the legality. All I do know is that it gets a bright indicator light up high on the front of the car.

This means I will get rid of the non standard indicators I installed on the front bumper.

I think this is a better approach than the dual bulb modification inside the sidelight as its brighter.

Naturally you will need to install an offset pin socket in the front sidelight (swap an 1156 socket for an 1157 socket).

If you have incandescent rear indicators you wont need to modify the flasher unit.

Ray,

Many thanks for the heads-up. From a similar thread, you may know that I am making an effort to up-grade my lighting, Despite being an Electrical Engineer, this LED technology is too new to me to be up-to-date. In fact, in my first year of engineering, there were only a handful of computers in Canada. Also, I've owned my TF from new. Now you know where I'm coming from!

This side lamp is definitely of interest to me, but once again, polarity rears its ugly head.

I can't find Paul Goff's URL. Can you pls post it again.

Thanks.

I have just purchased a pair of positive earth LED indicator bulbs from "Classic dynamo & regulator conversions" http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com - they work perfectly. I intend to install these at the rear in dedicated indicators on stalks. I will wire them in parallel with the front indicators and disconnect the flashing circuit for the rear brake lights. I think this will be safer than flashing red lights.

My purpose in using LEDs is their low current drain which should not put any additional strain on the indicator relay. I have an electronic flasher unit, so the drop in overall current should not affect the flash rate.

Thanks Ray & Matt,

I'm very tempted to try those white/amber side lights from Goff.

But I'm still skeptical.

Guys - did anyone try these miracle combination bulbs with a dual white and amber facility ?

How did it work out ?

Cheers

I second Dave's question. Anyone try them? And, if so, does negative vs positive grounding really matter. With standard bulbs it does not.
