MG TD TF 1500 - Fuel pump bolts....?
Ok....have tried everything from local nut and bolt places...#6 metric is close, but wiggles a bit much....what size bolts go in the back of an SU fuel pump? |

The answer always is very simple, on a T car, it is always BSf or BA unless it is on the engine or transmission then it's French Standard Metric with Whitworth heads. Late TD and TF had Unified threads (US National Fine UNF) on the rear axle. Note: 1/4 x 28, 1/4 x 26 in, and 6 x 1.0 mm look similar, as do 5/16 BSF. 5/16 SAE and 8 x 1.0 mm, which creates a problem for many. Making a mistake, results in stripped threads! Note: SU and Lucas continued to use British Standard (BSF & BA) long after the British Auto Industry had converted to the Unified standard. ( ie: the SU carbs on MGBs use BA nuts and bolts) |

Gordon - "This is a new SU and I thought they would have changed over..." Like the US Navy, SU is 50 years of tradition, unhampered by progress :-) Cheers - Dave |
