MG TD TF 1500 - fuel pump storage question
Prepping car for paint & I've removed fuel pump from firewall. Wondering how it should be stored long term (6 months or so)? Can the diaphram "dry out" or anything like that? Hate to store it with gas inside due to fire danger. Opinions? Thanks, Ed |

Put it in a baggy and don't worry. Mine sat for several years. And if it fails, send it to Dave DuBois. warmly, dave |

Ed - If possible, pump some mineral spirits through the pump to flush out all the gas. The mineral spirits will eventually evaporate but not leave a mess like gas will (there is nothing quite as bas as the smell of stale gas). The points may film over from disuse, but that can be cleaned off when you want to bring the pump back to life. Cheers - Dave |

Ed, My TD is stored over the winter period which could at times be as long as 5 to 6 months. I disconnect the power to the pump and run the motor until the carbs are out of gas. I don't know if this would also clear gas from the pump, but I've never had a problem starting the car in the spring. With the pump off the car, any gas that might be in it would evaporate in a short time and not present a fire hazard. George Raham |
