MG TD TF 1500 - Fuel Pump Vent - TF 1500 - Proper location Questio

I am preparing my TF 1500 for a trip next week and am servicing the fuel pump (cleaning filter screen and replacing an outlet gasket). I noticed that the vent pipe on this pump is oriented so that it is at the 6 o'clock position (when looking straight at the pump body) rather than at the top (12 o'clock position)

I had always thought that the vent should be at the top. While I have the pump off the car, I want to reposition the body (unscrew the screws and simply rotate the body 180 degrees) over the inlet/outlet base - but want to make sure before I do this.

Does a TF 1500 owner out there know if I am correct on that 12 positioning of the vent?

Thanks so much

Jeff

Jeff - I assume that you have a standard AZX 1331 SU fuel pump and the vent tube is one at the base of the coil housing see the first picture in the article, SU Fuel Pump Vent in the SU Fuel Pump Articles section of my web site at: http://homepages.donobi.net/sufuelpumps/ If this is the vent tube you are referring to, it belongs at the 6 o'clock position on that pump. None of the SU fuel pumps have it at the 12 o'clock position, but the pumps used on the MGBs have it oriented at the 2 o'clock position. Cheers - Dave

Hey Dave - I am unsure of the SU designation for the TF1500 - but the pump is a SU and the vent is located at the base of the coil housing. I am glad to know it should be facing down in that 6 o'clock position.

Thanks so much for the information.

One additional question - should the small brass valve disc that sits under the valve body in the outlet chamber have the smooth side facing down or facing up?

It popped out before I could see how it was facing.

This again is the loose disc that sits under the removable valve on the outlet.

Thanks Dave

Jeff - Smooth side down.
