MG TD TF 1500 - Fuel regulator
I was reading in another thread about fuel pumps and someone mentioned using a fuel regulator if using a US market pump (as they are designed to deliver more fuel) on a MG. Are there any advantages to installing a fuel pressure regulator on a MG? I noticed that buren.co.uk who sell modern SU carbs etc also have fuel regulators. |

Dave DuBois can obviously speak to this in much more detail, but the short answer is no. SU pumps are designed to put out the correct pressure for SU carbs. No advantage or benefit at all to using a regulator on an SU fuel pump. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

I agree with Tom, there is no advantage to using a higher pressure pump with a pressure regulator over just getting a pump with the proper output pressure (not over 4 psi output pressure). As for a US pump to deliver more fuel - you can get get double ended SU fuel pumps that deliver 36 GPH and even a single ended SU pump that delivers 18 GPH, both totally overkill in a MG unless you have one that you are going to enter in the drag races. Our T series cars were delivered with a single ended, low pressure pump that delivers 8.4 GPH to 9.6 GPH that I have found over the years, is completely adequate. Cheers - Dave |
