MG TD TF 1500 - Fuel system leaks

I had been putting off my winter TD projects until we had an unseasonably warm day here in Chicago. My fuel pump had been leaking all last summer. I took it apart and found that the diaphragm was badly worn. I ordered a new one plus fuel filter and gasket from Moss on a Sunday night and the box was on my front porch on Wednesday. I rebuilt the pump and got it running fine. However the workshop manual said to check the check valves on both the inlet and outlet side. The outlet side seemed fine but I could find no evidence of a check valve on the inlet side. Am I missing something?

Also, once I got it pumping, the pump was no longer leaking, fuel was now leaking around the banjo fitting on the first carb. I have new washers on order, however I don't remember how the banjo went. One side has a cutout for the washer the other side does not. Which side goes against the carb and which side does the bolt go against?

The bolt goes into the cutout side, and the flat portion of the banjo goes against the float bowl lid.

"The bolt goes into the cutout side, and the flat portion of the banjo goes against the float bowl lid."... with a fiber washer against both sides of the banjo fitting.

"The outlet side seemed fine but I could find no evidence of a check valve on the inlet side. Am I missing something?"

The inlet check valve is right under the outlet valve cage. I wouldn't go back into the pump to check it though,if the outlet valve disk was not deeply grooved, the inlet valve should be the same. Cheers - Dave

Interesting... I received new washers, cleaned everything up put it back together and it still leaked. Using my dental mirror is was obvious the the leak was the connection from the fuel pump to the banjo. I removed the fuel line and turned it end for end, connecting the leaking end to the fuel pump. No more leaks! Go figure.
