MG TD TF 1500 - fuel tank vent?
Can anyone tell me where the vent should be on a TD tank. I can't see anything on the filler cap but there must be one somewhere. John |

John, The vent is in the cap itself. If you have replaced the seal in the cap, expect to have a hard time keeping the engine running on a start. If the seal is too tight, a vacuum builds up which prevents the fuel from flowing. Replacing the seal isn't always a good idea unless you have experienced serious sloshing on corners, etc. The old seal is often better. If you want to get serious, a pigtail soldered into the cap is another solution, but is probably overkill. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Gordy, when I first bought my 54TF I experienced problems with a weak fuel pump that could not overcome what a previous owner did. They installed RTV, liquid rubber, around the inset in the tank that the cap fit into. After installation of a new pump the problem of fuel starvation was lessened, but not stopped, I took a closer look and noticed this seal problem. I cleaned this out and installed a proper cork seal in the filler neck. This eliminated that problem. Mark |
