MG TD TF 1500 - Fuse amperage for standard TD
Hi: What is the proper amperage for the two fuses in a 1953 TD? Thank you. Stuart |

Stuart, The British fuses are rated at their 'blow' level, while US fuses are rated at their 'hold' level, which is usually half the blow level. Hence, the horns get the 50 amp British or 25 amp US, and the other one is 35 amp British and 17-20 US. Note that our generators only put out about 20 amps, and that the heaviest load in the car is probably the headlamps... which are unfused! An in-line fuse on each headlamp wire is not a bad idea. warmly, dave |

Mine are both 15 amp na (i thought the horns were not fused?) |

The OEM fuses are both British 35 amp (image attached). The fuse between terminals A1 and A2 handles the horns. The fuse between A3 and A4/A4 handles the Screenwiper, Petrol Warning Lamp, Stop Lamp Switch and Directional Indicator Flasher Unit.

Stuart, My information shows the fuse between terminals A1-A2 is a 50AMP British (30AMP US). This fuse protects the horn circuit. The A3-A4 fuse is 35AMP British (25AMP US). As Dave said above, the fuses do little to protect the car's electrical system. I added auxiliary fuses to my car as described here: tseriesmg.bl*gsp*t.com You have to replace the "*"s with "o"s in the link above. The BBS will not allow links to google's blog site. Good luck, Evan |
