MG TD TF 1500 - Fuse Ratings

I cannot find the rating for the ignition circuit fuse ( or for the lights etc for that matter).

I have at the moment a 15 amp fuse for the ignition and a 35 amp fuse for the lights etc but don't know if this is right. Seems odd. I would have thought they should be the other way around ?

The reason I ask is I have blown two 15 amp fuses in the ignition circuit. I have to be fair installed an electric fan...but that seems to work fine and the fuses have burned while I have been travelling at a reasonable enough speed that I don't think the fan was on ( it is on a thermostatic switch).

Have I the right fuses ?

Should I uprate slightly because of the fan ? 20amps

I am about to put in a sports coil and pertronix ignition - should I uprate for this ?

Cheers

Hi Dave,
The one for the horns is 50A and the one for a collection of various devices is 35A. The fusing is really poor. Many of us add extra fusing in holders or in line for lights, fuel pumps, etc...The lights are not fused. MG planned on the light from the wiring harness fire to illuminate the road ahead.

Dave, unless the TF is different from the TD, the ignition circuit isn't fused, nor are the lights. Bud

The A3 - A4 fuse is for the ignition switched accessories:
Wiper, low fuel light, brake light, turn signals, etc. (A4 side of fuse)

Suggest 20 amp US style fuse here.

Note that British and US fuse ratings are different

The fuel pump and Ignition coil are not fused (A3 side)

The lights are direct fed from the battery.

The horns are fed by the A1 - A2 fuse Suggest 30 amp US style here

Thanks guys. I'll use a 20amp fuse for the A3-A4 position as Don suggests. Gives me a little more leeway which is all I think I need from the 15 amp that was in there when I got the car.

Cheers.
