MG TD TF 1500 - General Comment

I just want to say thank you again to all the contributors on this site. I bought a supposedly "Mint Condition" TD in September 2010. It has been on jack stands until last week. With your help I approached a seemingly daunting task. All of your help was invaluable. Not only answers to my questions but reading other threads and older threads from the archives. She is running very nicely for now. I'm looking forward to many improvements and a lifetime of tinkering.
Thanks again,
Mort

Thats a very long list! However I am sure that you will find the effort worth it.

Yes Tom,
It is already worth it. My wife is busy buying green (BRG) hats for driving with the top down. And I am dusting off my 48 year old green beret.

So that would be the short list ? Many years of tinkering ahead. I had to smile reading the list while remembering doing the same things to my "Great Runner" . There is something about that word "Done" ....very satisfying. Good work Mort !

I thought my TD was pretty "tidy" but in the past 2 years since I got it, I've spent countless hours doing one thing or another.

Don't keep a log of the time spent, it'll appal you, and give your wife a stick to beat you with. Just enjoy it and know that you're keeping alive something that future generations will get as much pleasure from as we do. That might sound strange, given the likes/dislikes of the average 20-year old now, but something happens in middle-age which makes a lot of people appreciate older things for their intrinsic value alone.

10 years ago, I took up removating Longcase (Grandfather) clocks. I've got a house full of them now and I'm fascinated by where they've been in their life and the events they've witnessed - the earliest is about 1690 and it's ticking away in the corner as I type. Generations have looked after it, although it did look sorry for itself when I got it.

Makes me wonder, what do you think IS the likely future lifespan of an MG? It should be virtually infinite ... shouldn't it?

Mort,

At least the word 'Concours' was'nt used !!(lol).
Keep at it.When these cars are put right
you soon forget the frustrations of the work
after the first drive.
