MG TD TF 1500 - Generator Output
Greetings to all: I've been offline for a few months, but I'm BAAAACCCKKKK! I drove my TF home from a parking lot car show after dark last night, which required the use of my headlamps for the first time (after a year of ownership!). I noticed right away that the lights were dimmer than I anticipated and that the ignition light increased in intensity with the increase in RPMs. By the time I arrived home (about a 15 minute drive), the battery was so low that it would not turn the engine over after shutdown. I connected my BatteryMinder to it overnight and this morning, the battery was back to full strength. I cranked the engine, turned on the headlamps and they were as bright as one would expect during daylight hours. The ignition light flickered at idle (normal, I think) and went off when RPMs were increased, as one would expect. So, does anyone have comments or suggestions that would shed light (pardon the pun) on this situation? Cheers, Frank |

Frank - Run the test described in the Testing A Dynamo/Generator in the Other Tech Articles section of my Homepage at: http://homepages.donobi.net/sufuelpumps/ If the test fails, you have a generator. If it passes you need to have someone look at your regulator. Jerry Felper felperg@earthlink.net or 714-630-1074 is one person who can repair/adjust the regulator. Cheers - Dave |

Does your amp meter show charging / discharging? Should be quite obvious from the reading if the battery gets charged or not as a quick first check. If it gets discharged with lights on and engine over 2000 rpm, then something is wrong Rgds Mike |
