MG TD TF 1500 - Generator, Fan & Distance piece
From, The Original MG TD midget, Generator fan/pulley, distance piece--Engine Red--Most believe these to be red but some claim they were black. Any comments on this statement? My generator, fan and distance piece are black on the TF, should they be red? PJ |

PJ - I painted mine black, but that is not necessarily correct. The T Series Handbook, published by the New England MG 'T' states Red or Black so I think that you can flip a coin on that. Cheers - Dave |

If you have a look at the TD production film on the British Pathe website you can clearly see the pulley matches the engine shade (in black and white). I am confident this continued into TF production but can not be certain that the last of the TF's were done this way. The part numbers for the pulley indicate BMC production, not Lucas production. Looks like Lucas supplied the black generator without the pulley. So the Morris Engines plant probably sprayed the pulley along with the engine and the adjustable brackets all in place. I have attached a picture that Colin Stafford provided a while ago of his very original car which appears to have the original paint. I have seen this same paint scheme on other unrestored TF's Cheers, Matthew. |

Thanks Dave, I'll take that information under advisement. Matthew, Thanks for the photo on the original color combination. I noticed that the belt adjusting bracket is red also. I copied the photo for future reference. The photo also clears up the mounting of the thermocouple tube to the rad brace and how it's coiled. With all the fancy spit and polish of the restored cars, there's nothing that can compare to an original unrestored specimen. Sure clears up a lot of issues. PJ |
