MG TD TF 1500 - Good Buy?

I was watching the E-bay sale of a TD MkII. It went for $7200.

I know it is hard to tell the condition by picutres, but it appears that the buyer got a reasonable deal.

Hmm, certainly seems so !
Mine is in similar condition but it was more expensive and not a Mk II.
It seems it's on its way to Holland right now!

HERE IS MY TWO CENTS...BY THE TIME YOU EXPEND ALL THE TIME AND MATERIALS TO RESTORE THIS CAR TO EVEN A #2 YOU WILL BE IN TO IT WAY MORE THAN YOU CAN BUY ONE ALREADY DONE AND IN ALMOST SHOW CONDITION. Unless you have lots of time on your hands and plenty of talent or own your own shop why even both..Spend a few bucks more and your in to a much better situation

For me, the break even point on a car needing total restoration, but with everything there is $8,000. I feel with my talents, and with a bit of luck (good crank and block, not too much rust, key parts present and restorable) and about $17,000 more I can have loads of fun doing a TD. I won't pay for my time, but at least I'll come out even in the end, sort of like enjoying an expensive sport. Not to show disrespect for any other MG (particularly the beautiful MGA and mgtf), but except for the MGB, the TD is the easiest to work on, while still retaining the modern suspension layout.

So, IMHO the winner got a good deal. Fortunately, I already am doing a TD, and if I did another, I would simply have a second TD in a different color... Now, where did I put those ad listing for MGBs?

I am with you Dave. A good part of the fun of these cars is the taking apart and putting them back together.

Besides, I am sure most of you have found that the parts I purcase for my TD may add up but they are not that bad to get by the wife. If I went to her and said I wanted to buy a $20,000 TD, I know the answer.

That has to be the most original use of an 'aftermarket' turn signal switch I've ever seen....well, the hasp and padlock screwed to the bodywork and door of an old Saab was close!
