MG TD TF 1500 - Gordon Lawson
Hi everyone. I am Gordon Lawson's brother and now the proud owner of the Checkerboard TD. I promise to treat it with the utmost care and respect. It will soon be in Maryland. I am sorry I did not find this site sooner in order to tell all of you how much my brother enjoyed your company and the opportunity to share his knowledge and humor. He certainly had lots of both. thank you all so much for being his friends. I have owned MGs and other British cars almost all my life. The TD would have been mine had my wife not found out about it. Gord found it and sent me the details because I had never owned a T Series. He fell in love with it and quickly bought it . It changed his life and I am so glad for that. We had a wonderful celebration for him on July 14th with a British car parade beforehand. It was followed by 90 minutes of sharing his life by family and friends and about 200 people at his favorite theater. I will share the life of the TD with you. I do not plan to restore it but do plan to meticulously maintain it and drive it with pride and great memories. Thanks again Laurie Lawson |

Thanks, Laurie. We've certainly missed Gordon. His talent and skills were amazing, not to mention his sense of humor. Don't be a stranger. Bud Krueger |

So glad it stayed in the family, and continues to be cared for! |

Great to have you and on the board and the car "back" on the board. One thing I always remember about your brother Gordon, was he "drove" that car! I hope you do the same. I watched all of his videos countless times. Gordon was kind enough to make me one of his wonderful wood steering wheels, and I'm happy that you had a celebration for him. He was a thoughtful and genuine person, and he is greatly missed here. |

Hey Laurie, I got to drive his TD when Diane and I visited him in NOTL. Also met your Mom. She was so sweet. Enjoy the only checkerboard TD to come from the factory. Gordon photoshopped the picture to prove it! Here is a shot from that day. Warmly, Dave |

Laurie, Welcome aboard! Gordon would be so happy to know you found this site and the little C-B-T will be driven again. So many of us have a little piece of him traveling with us in our cars. I know I do, and think fondly of him whenever I am near my car. I miss the whit & humor he always brought to this BBS. I chatted with one of his coworkers before the celebration about the possibility of getting it up on the internet so all of Gordon's friends here could "attend". They were unable to make that happen but had told me it was taped. Had hoped to see it come up on you tube. If there is anyway you could do that and post a link here it would be appreciated by many of us. Best Regards, David |

Even here in Norway I received helpful advice from Gordon, both on this list and off list, and we became FB friends. Although I never met him I miss him, and its good to have you his brother and his TD with us here. Enjoy the MG, they are lovely cars to drive, and not bad cars, just a bit maintenance intensive.. Laurie, This Gordon Lawson steering wheel gets "beautiful" comments at every show. We lost a true craftsman. Jim |

Does anyone have one of Gordon's steering wheels for sale? |
J.A. McWhirter |
I do not have one for sale, but I can lead you to DIY from a Morgan Site. I know nothing about wood working, but made mine & love it! |
Len Fanelli |
Hi Laurie. Great to hear the Checkerboard is in good hands. Did Gordon put one of his beautiful steering wheels in it? |
Bruce Cunha |
Gordon sent me this. I can only imagine it is what one might call a "self-caricature". Being a very artistic guy, I wouldn't doubt it. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |
