MG TD TF 1500 - Grill Paint
Does anyone have a recommendation for a tan color touch up grill paint? One of the badges on the grill came loose and scratched the tan grill paint. Thank you! |

I used Rust-oleum American Accents, Nutmeg Satin which very closely matches the biscuit color of the Moss leather interior kit. The Rust-oleum number is 7942830. Hope this helps, Roy |

R, Unless someone wrote it down (brand, name, code#), there is no way to know exactly what color paint you have. You can eyeball it and try to match at the home center, try to match paint chips and have a small amt. mixed, etc. I have checked out spray paint brands Krylon, RustOleum, American traditions (Lowe's house brand), and others before to find something to match. You can spray the paint into the lid, and touch up with a Q-tip or something (or the shaft of the Q-tip) or a small brush, etc. George |

have you thought about pulling the grill and powder coating it? regards, tom |

Thanks all for your advise. I will try the spray paint first. Thank you Roy for the specific paint number. I will let you know how it works out. |

Can anyone tell me the easiest way to remove the grill? I have some badges that are loose and sliding and scratching the paint. I want to remove them or tighten them, but I cannot get behind the grill. Thanks |

R, no easy way. Remove the bumper, front splash apron, bonnet (easiest to remove the rear hinge support by the windshield and slide it back and off- takes 2 people and put towels down so you don't scratch the paint), then remove the rubber strip, headlight bracket bolts (the big ones), then the small bolts that attach the through-the-shell brackets to the center bar, remove the short brackets, then all of the screws/nuts that fasten the shell onto the rad core. Then carefully worm the shell/false nose over the threaded cap part (tape the threads so you don't ding them). Maybe someone else knows an easier way? George PS- if you do remove the grill from the shell, be super careful with the studs, as they are just soldered on |

Wow! that seems like a lot of work to take some badges off. If I could only find a simpler way to tighten the one that keeps sliding down and scratching the grill paint... I can then paint the grill and leave the badges in place. |

Try wedging some plastic or a thin wood shim between the badge and the grill slats ? Dallas |

Try dabbing JB weld epoxy, or E6000 urethane adhesive (it is used from everything from attatching fender flares to rhinestones on dance costumes)between the mounting clamp and slat. Both really sticky. The E6000 is clear. Maybe much better idea than removing the grill. George |

George, Thanks for this idea. How hrd would it be to remove the badge in the future if it were glued on like that? Thanks |
R Thadani |
If you used a sparing amount, not very. It may pop the paint off. I have used JB Weld to fasten a loose and rattling grill slat with great success, to avoid taking the shell off. George |

Removing the bumper and apron only, allows one to get a thin arm up behind...depends how high up your badges are...(thats why mine are down low). Otherwise its pull all the other stuff off... |
