MG TD TF 1500 - Have fun
I posted this Ebay MGTD on another TD post, but I thought this group might find it interesting.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/294289154054?hash=item4485002006:g:2G8AAOSwE1Rg-JUd Yes, this is a very nice TD. Better than many, but for the asking price, and stating the car had a $60,000 restoration, I find a lot of issues. You may be able to call it a show car, but it would have a lot of points deductions in a concourse show. I see. Unpainted bolts in various parts of the engine bay. Dual oil/temp gauge (car is too early for that gauge) Reproduction ID tag, and none of the tags are nickel plated. Brass oil cap. Aftermarket oil filter (yes, originals are not for sale anymore, but there are ones that are very close) Poor job of taping off the valve adjustment tag on the valve cover. Cad bolts going through the rear of the body holding the spare tire/fuel tank brackets on. Wrong color on the bolts holding the dash panel in. Chrome radiator slats and headlight bar. (it is debated that some very early TD;s may have had both. The TD/C had chrome slats, but I don't think chrome headlight bars) Unpainted thermostat housing. Unpainted pan, timing chain cover and bell housing. Aluminum painted exhaust manifold. It appears the intake manifold is also painted. It looks like the rear valance has been cut on the front edge. A number of other small items that could have easily been done correctly during a professional restoration. Am I being nit-picky? Yes. Most of us have some or more of the same, but if I pay $60,000 for a restoration, I expect perfection. But then perhaps the PO did not know what is correct. Also, can someone tell me about the body number? I have never seen one like this. What are the slots in the side of the Tonneau for? A wind screen? Or did the side curtains go over the tonneau when the top is up? |

That looks like a Moss 1/2 tonneau cover. They say the slots were in original covers as provided by the factory and are for putting the the side curtains in place if the top/hood is down. Joe |

I think it's a very nice car and probably appropriate for the current $40k asking price. Most of the items that Bruce mentioned could be fixed as weekend projects for someone that cared. I have seen a lot worse for a lot more money. If every TD came out of a restoration like this car did, I would be pleased. |

I think that if you're looking for a 100 point car, you would have to pay a lot more than they are asking for this one. The price seems to reflect the care that has gone into it. Quality takes time and time costs money. How much do you want to pay? ;) |

What do you make of the body number? |
Bruce Cunha |
The body tag is also a repop and the number is arbitrarily stamped. Bill Chasser TD-4834 |
