MG TD TF 1500 - Have I Been Overcharged?

Please look at the attached invoice and let me know if the charges are too high. Would you believe a new cam shaft and bearings (fitted) was £2 and a radiator £7.

Cheers

Well that depends. Using Retail Price Index, 20 then equates to 257 at todays prices. But converting to current value using Average Earnings - which might be best for this particular case - the cost is 488.

I see you have an invoice there from Thomson's Motor Spares. I remember them well; Hoffman's for the overhead cam cars (I had a PB midget) Thomson's for T and Y Series, then Archway Engineering and Toulmin's for MGA. Those were the days - if only one had known it!

and I bought a 1500 midget in late 1967 for not much more than the price of the TD in the list, but it was still almost six month's wages.

My Father paid $1500 for his TF1500 back in 56.
New, untitled, but had just under 200 miles on it.
Back then the $400/$500 discount was fairly epic!

At least that is what he told Mom!

depends..is it still under warranty? LOL. thanks for posting. regards, tom

What about a speedocable for £ 1-02 pound?

Willem van der Veer

The cable and two shockabsorbers were under £ 10,-!

Hi Alexander,

Yes I also have invoices from both Archway Engineering and Toulmin Motors. The one that intrigues me most is from Mangoletsi for a HyTorque cylinder head and manifold and that was for £44-7s-2d which from your calcs is over £1000! A new pair of large bore SUs was also £15-5s-6d, about a further £300. The engine hasn't run since all of this work was carried out in 1969 so I hope it was worth it.

Here's a '73 one from Toulmin Motors Middlesex for TD3966.

Those were the days...!
