MG TD TF 1500 - Headlamp replacement
Dear all, My 1953 TD is running here in North Carolina and headlamps are equipped with sealed beams as it should. Unfortunately, this type of lights are forbidden in Europe and I have to replace it when I will export the car to Germany. I have to replace against semi-seald beams or oldfashined seperat glas lens and reflector. Do you can tell me a source in the USA where I can get this 7" semi-sealed beams or glas lens and reflector? I looked into the Moss catalog but the price column shows a "NA" I assume it not availaible. Thank you for help. Guenter |

Guenter, Did you try Mick at Keystone ? I got a set of Lucas 'dots' semi-sealed from him last year, not cheap but NOS. Try mmmgtcars at yahoo.com I think that is it. Alex |

Why don’t you contact one of the German MG clubs? Go to http://www.mgcars.org.uk/clubs/clubge.html and select Germany. Lots of resources here. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Hi Guenter, unless it is a Germany only regulation, sealed beam units are legal in Europe. I have had sealed beams on my TF since I bought it in 1974. Nearly all the people I know with T Types have them fitted. It is doubtful that any modern tester knows what was fitted to a car over 50 years old ( I still have to explain to my M.O.T. testers how a flyoff handbrake works) Ray Lee 1954 TF |
