MG TD TF 1500 - Headlight restoration
I have a pair of headlights which have been disassembled and re-chromed. The puzzle remains as to how to re-attach the stems to the buckets in an original manner as possible using rivets which are also chromium plated. These are missing. Can anyone suggest a source for these rivets or an alternative method. Thank you |

I would use the small polished stainless carriage-type bolts. Where did you get them re-chromed/how much? John |

The best way would be to turn up some rivets from stainless and ensure the staight ends have a generous counter bore. This will enable you to spread them without too much force. If you don't have access to a lathe stainless bolts are another option. You should try a boat chandlers they sell stainless fittings for use on boats. Cheers Jan T |

Use threaded rivets available from Restoration Supply Company; used to be in Reno but believe I heard that they moved to Calif. Perhaps someone can provide a current address/ tel #. Don't buy the nuts they sell for the rivets get nyloc nuts localy.I think the size I used was 6-32x5/8. They worked very well.Terry |

Thanks for all your suggestions. John, the lights form part of a TA restoration project I am currently working on for a client, and which he supplied already re-chromed but, as I said, with the rivets missing. |
