MG TD TF 1500 - Heated seats..
As I am about to re-upholster the seats in my TD, I am considering incorporating heating elements in the lower seat base, as the car is used regularly throughout the winter. The power supply would be of course 12 V and I plan to take the elements from a scrapped modern car, plenty to choose from. Does anyone have experience in this type of modification and can offer any tips? Thanks in advance. |

Hi IW, unless you have converted to an alternator i suspect you might be drawing a few too many amps for the original system - particularly if driving with headlights on.
Just recently i was demonstrating the heated seats on our Passat to a grandson but found that instead of turning them off after the heating effect became noticeable i had merely turned them down from level 3 to level 2. By the time we reached his school my seat was fairly sizzling... Now if you come across a way to add aircon i would be interested as we are only a couple of hundred miles S of the tropic. Chris |

I did not mention re alternator, the conversion has been done. As I live in Scotland, heated seats would be more welcome than aircon! When the weather permits we just take off the hood! I was planning a straightforward on/off switch incorporating a thermostat and obviously a safety cutout. |
