MG TD TF 1500 - Heritage Certificate

How do I go about getting a heritage certificate for my TF? Also, does the certificate give the individual cars history, or just build dates? PJ

Geoff, I assume that your information does not apply to cars that were built for export.
Jim Merz

I don't really know. I assumed it was just the building info. You give them the chassis number and they tell you the building info.

"The Archive of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust preserves the surviving records of some of the most famous names in British motoring history. The Archive department offers the proud classic car owner a Heritage Certificate which is a certified copy of the entry against the chassis number in the authentic factory ledgers. Discover the original numbers and colour scheme, dates of build and despatch, and where available, the details of factory fitted equipment."

The Heritage Certificate contains only the information on the Factory Record including build date, factory options, and maybe who shipped to.
It does not contain any history of the car (eg: owners, etc.).

If the car has ever been registered with the MG Car Club you can get some information as to hostory from the T Register at www.tregister.org.

In any case you can get the limited Factory record for all T;s (including TD) from their records

I would like to find a way to determine the body #s as my plate is missing and the number stamped in the wood (by L/h tub rail)is worn down.

Look on the outside of the left dumb iron. In case you are new to British cars the dumb iron is the part of the frame that sticks out in front of the front crossmember.

In case you want to know what to expect.
Here is what I got for mine.
Kind of "hit or miss" far as some of the info. Just depends on what they have for "your" car.

OBTW: Do double check the info!
First one I got (pictured here) had the wrong engine number. They did correct and send new one.

Cheers,
David

Hello,

I received a heritage certificate the other week for my 1954 TF 1500. Built 13-15 October 1954 and shipped to uspecified US dealer, LHD. Chassis no HDC46/7481 and engine no XPEG 1292. Colour MG red wtih red interior, biscuit soft top and wire wheels.

The car was restored in USA in the early nineties I believe, in the factory correct colour combo, and was imported to Norway in 1993. I bought it in June this year from the son of a recently deceased owner, and I have no information regarding which US dealer or previous owners in the US.

Specifically I would like to get in touch with the person that did a really nice frame off resto job on this car.

Any of you MG professors out there with an idea of where and how to start a search for the cars US history? The car had an MG Car club badge on it. Would the club have any info and whom should I then contact?

PS: Did a 600 km mountain tour here in Norway last weekend, no problems, used 0,3 l engine oil, gas consumption approx. 0,9 liters/10 km. Oil pressure 50-55 psi at 2000 rpm hot engine, drops to 35 when hot and idling.

Stock 4-speed box, and yes the stick does rattle a bit under load. Cruising at 45 mph is very relaxed, engine then turning at approx 3300 RPM. probably standard 4.8:1 rear axle??

Jan,
Like Don said, you may be able to get some more info from www.tregister.org.
Looks like our cars were built the same week in October 1954. 54 cars apart.
(See above)
Curious ...Is yours tittled as a 1954 or 1955?
In the US back then they were tittled as year they were sold...not made. Mine is tittled as a 55.
I haven't had much luck finding out any other info for mine, but if yours was registered with the MG Car Club, you may do better.
Best of luck, and cheers,

Hello David,

Yes I see now that our cars may have stood bumber to bumber across the pond in the North Atlantic autumn storms of 1954!

Mine is titled as 1955 as well, but after having received the heritage certificate I regard her as a 1954 model. She has been given the name Vera, as i grew up with a father with fond wartime memories of Vera Lynn, which we were heavily exposed to after he bought our first LP-player and one LP - "as tears go by" with Dame Vera L. in 1963.

I will contact the T-reg and the MG car club, thank you suggesting that,

regards,

Jan Emil

Jan,
Interesting : Cars are 54 units apart, engines 80 apart. I have heard engines were used in a somewhat "random" order.
Let me know if you find out what dealer yours went to. Neat to think "Izzy" and "Vera" might have been shipmates. (Maybe went to same dealer?)
I am the 3rd owner on mine. Has a somewhat "sorted" past concerning paint. PO insisted Ivory was orginial color (BMHT shows "Red") In 2001 I took the car down to bare metal. (it had a repaint in the 70's that I have pictures of the process). What is strange on mine is where I found Red paint and where Ivory was. Suspect mine was painted red at factory but then resprayed Ivory before final assembly. Not too long ago learned from Matt, on this board, that the tool box lids were sprayed on the lid for in-tub curtain storage before they were covered. When I pealed the covering off my orginial "lid" there was a tracing in Ivory on it, but when we took it down to bare metal there was red paint under it. (on the lid) There were a few other spots we ran into this. i.e. places that could only have been painted before final assembly. The pictures from the 70's respray show she was NOT dissembled far enough to have done it then.
Have you posted a picture of you car on Gordon's site? I seem to have missplaced my link to that, (help somebody?), Many of us have done this...nice to look at others on here cars!
Here is pic of Vera's "sister"!
PS: Daughter has a Ferrit named Vera

Thank you for your responses! I will have a pic taken of me in Vera and post it to the lists gallery one of the first days. It is raining today, so not a good "T"-day.

Jan Emil.

Hello again, I have posted this pic to the gallery today, but thought I would show it to you here on the list as well. Chassis no HDC46/7481 and engine no XPEG 1292
