MG TD TF 1500 - High beam warning light

MGTD wiring diagram labeled "For cars fitted with floor mounted
dimmer switch and turn signals with highbeam warning light" shows
only one IP ilumination light for the speedo and tach whereas my
gauges have two holes for ilumination bulbs and does NOT have a
highbeam warning light 'hole' however my car does have a floor
mounted dimmer switch.

G & G - Buy, beg Borrow or stel a copy of the T Series Handbook and restoration guide put out by the New England MG T Register, available from Moss and Brit Book. There is a section in the book that details all of the production changes and the car number at which the changes took place. While no guide of this sort is 100% accurate, the one in this book comes the closest in my estimation. From that you can tell what your car should have and not have in it. Of course, one has to keep in mind that the car is over 50 years old and has gone through a succession of owners, any one who may have changed things to tuit their own preferences. A 1951 or early 1952 TD should have the dimmer switch on the dash and not on the floor, but that is something that someone may well have changed. The speedometer, or the speedometer case could well have been changed over the years also. Good luck - Dave

Check out Chris Couper's WebSite "The Original MGTD midget" at http://www.british-cars.org.uk/kimber/mgtd/mgtd_production.htm#dates
for production dates. You'll find that your Car No. 11547 was built during November of 1951, about a third of the way through the month. Follow David DuBois' directions for the NEMGTR list of changes. There is also a good list on Chris' site. The high beam warning light wasn't added to the speedometer until Car #17548 in June of '52. Turn signals didn't become standard until Car No. 22315 in December of '52. The floor mounted dip switch wasn't standard until Car No. 18883 in August of '52. Yours was most likely a retrofit. The tachometer and speedometer each have two holes for illumination lamps. The wiring diagram is just saving ink and shows only one bulb in each.
