MG TD TF 1500 - Holding Fast Idle Speeds
I promised Larry Karpman a plot of advance vs. engine speed and hope to do it today. Problem is in finding a way to set, and hold, a fast idle speed, i.e., above 2,000 rpm, perhaps as high as 4,000. The idle speed adjusting screw might be able to get up over about 1500, but above that's a problem. Has anyone found a handy way to do it? TIA. Bud |

yes, ask someone to help you. Seriously, dave |

Ok, another thought. Make a tapered wedge that you can slide between the throttle stop and the screw. Ease the wedge in as you desire more speed, and make your readings. dave |

Bud, If the problem is that the throttle stop screw bottoms, you can remove spring(s this should enable the screw to move further down and give you more revs. John |

Bud, I used a "turn-buckle" with some hooks on it I found in my garage.....hooked around the carb linkage! Worked pretty well when I was checking the timing @ 3000RPM after installing pertronix. Cheers, David 55 TF1500 #7427 |

John, you hit it right on. Removing the spring from the idle adjusting screw allowed me to turn the screw far enough to get the idle speed up over 3,000 rpm. The throttle doesn't have to open very under no-load conditions. Dave, I have to try that one. Thanks - Bud |
