MG TD TF 1500 - Hood fitting corner of windscreen
I attach a photo showing my new hood draped over the front rail. I have placed a piece of tape to show the stitching for the vertical flap that seals the side screen. If I pull the hood tight across the rail the stitching is in alignment with the ends of the rail (flat sections just after the curve. This means the vertical flap is in alignment with the ends of the rail and about 3/4" away from the flange on the windscreen frame which I think the side screen should press against. Also the flap ends about 1/4" in from the rear face of the rail. Shouldn't this flap fit snuggly against the windscreen flange? If this is so it is a little too long (easily sorted) but shouldn't it be stitched further into the centre of the hood? Has anyone got details of these corners of the hood. Also an alert - tighten up the windscreen pivot bolts and wing nuts really tight before doing any fitting. Mine were just tight enough to allow me to fold the screen but the windscreen had tilted slightly. I only noticed this when I trial fitted a side screen the the front wasn't parallel to the windscreen. I could have cut the hood 1/2" too short. Cheers JanT |

Jan I just had a shop fit my new Robbins hood to my TD. Mine does the same thing. My curtains don't fit correctly but I have to do a lot of sorting on them to see if I can make them work right. My original hood was disintegrated so I had nothing to work with as a comparison. Beyond that I can't offer you anything Cheers Bill Chasser jr TD4834 |

LONNIE. Nice looking material for your top. That color does not appear to me as being anything like the originals. It shows up almost grey. Sandy |

I have photos of my car going back to 1962. They start in black and white and progress through to colour ones. Even with the black and white photos it is clear my car has had a black hood since 1962. I know it is contentious but originality means to me the way it has been for most of its life, especially when the car was being used, and abused, as a every day runner. I have an interest in pre war MGs and quite a few of these had their leaky OHC engines replaced by ones from scrap Ford 10s. These are now collectable in their own right and I love to see how a previous owner, probably a poor student, connected the original radiator to the Ford engine using a long length of convoluted hose. I think the same applies to 1960s American hot rods. Jan T |

Jan T. I think those flaps should finish in exactly the position that you describe - snuggly behind the windscreen side frame. Nothing else makes sense, so it can only be this way. One of mine did and the other didn't, so I opened the seam, cut it back and sewed it in situ so that it would fit. It looks fine. I've no idea whether it was the way I installed it or the original make-up of the hood that was the cause. Dave H |

Jan, take a look at the "Original mgtf midget-Gallery" exterior photos, they make it clear. Ray TF 2884 |
