Mike, Thanks for the very interesting article,,, the horns always worked in our car, so I never needed to "get into" them,,, and therefor never realized what was in there !!!!! . . . SPW |

Hi Mike, Thanks for supplying lead to info. on adjusting horns. If anyone needs to adjust the armature, I would suggest that on the first occasion the whole horn is dismantled so that the two 'nuts' can be more easily removed by convential means. They can be quite tight, and have probably not been separated in 50 yrs! Once loosened, and the horn re-assembled, the nut can be moved with a thin spanner, and a temporary two peg spanner made up by bending from a long narrow piece of mild steel. Two pegs will work and the tool is unlikely to be used again for many years, so case hardening etc is unnecessary. Cheers John |

Well my horns work, but the low note one sounds like a sick cow and the high note one sounds like a dying pig! Both are ok if I liked the barn yard sound. I cleaned the horns up inside and the points, but other than lubing the pin, made no other adjustments. I checked the armature gaps and their both off, reason for wanting to adjust them to specs. Put the horns on a relay and then really find out how well they sound. You will be one of the loudest cars on the road. Jim |

Can anyone tell me what is the thread on the bolts that hold the horn together? I disassebled mine 10 years ago, and now cannot find all the nuts. I have gone through every nut in my substantial pile, but cannot identify the thread. Is it an old whitworth thread? My horns are off a TF manufactured about August 1954 and appear to be the WT618. Thanks John |

John - The nuts that you need are 0BA. They are available from British Tools & Fasteners at: http://www.britishfasteners.com/?gclid=CNHFr4qXiqUCFRhzgwodlwx5Mg under P/N 3665 In a pinch, you can use 6 X 1mm nuts. They have the same threads per inch as the 0BA nuts, but a different thread form. Cheers - Dave |
