MG TD TF 1500 - Hot Feet
The foot well and transmission tunnel on the TD gets very hot from the engine. Is there any insulation material that can be used under the carpet to keep this area a little cooler especially in the hot summer months!! Regards Richard 1952 TD |

The stuff that Moss has in the cat. works fine just put it under the carpet set. I did this on my TD and there is a difference. You still feel the heat but not as bad. I installed the insulation under the entire carpet set including under the seats and up the fire wall as far as I could get it. The stuff that i have is like the Moss stuff only has a silver aluminum coating on one side. |

The kids with their loud stereo's may actually be of assistance for a change as it relates to this. There's a product called 'dynamat' that is made for sound isolation (there's the tie to the youngins). Within that line of products they have one that does the sound isolation, but also provides heat dampening. You could get sheets of the material and mount it beneath your carpets and probably end up with a cooler, and quieter ride. Here's a link to the company: http://www.dynamat.com/ They've got a link to allow you to find a dealer near you. |

Stan, Good post on the dynamat. I was thinking of buying some (I see Moss sells it.) Moss is asking $100.00 US for a 3'x4' roll! Yikes! Does anyone know of a cheaper source? Thanks.. |

I googled dynamat and the second place I went to had a 3' X 4' sheet for $49.95 http://www.installer.com/noise.html I think if you look around on the web you'll find it more reasonable that Moss. Good luck. |

Evan, Bob Muenchausen, who regularly posts on the MGB and the A pages has advised us that Home Depot sells the high tech insulation in the hot water insulation department. In recent threads on he listed the upc number of the item. Apparently not all stores carry it. Regards, Dennis |

Evan, a copy of Bob's posting: For those interested in trying to find the heat insulation blanket material found at SOME Home Depot's, here is the pertinent info. Just note that the UPC can be used at ANY other store to look up if they can get it for you. We show the following info on the "Space Age" insulating blanket material (identical material to the automotive version as sold by others) available at our Home Depot (and probably other stores, just use the UPC # to trace the product itself): SKU # 329-730 (this is our tracking number inside Home Depot's inventory system) UPC Code 7 95274 36080 5 "Quality Heat Shield Water Heater Jacket ~ R-19 equivalent" $19.98 USD Cheers, Bob M. |
