MG TD TF 1500 - I am too tall
At 6'4" I find my knees jammed against the dash board and the shift lever while driving. My little dream car (a 1950 MGTD) was not built for my height. I have thought of cutting the gas peddle back about three inches, Buying a smaller diamater stearing wheel, and putting in MG miget bucket seats in order to get a few inches of releif. Are there any other ideas out there. Thanks Tom |

Tom, Take the pedal extensions out. This gives you about 2 1/2 inches leg room. Use a smallet diameter wheel. There was a thread on moving the TD seat back about 2 inches, see it for info on moving seat back. Some have reduced the thickness of the bottom seat cushion also. The pedals are normally mounted to small extensions from the levers, these can be removed and the pedals bolted directly to the levers Your only real problem should come if your head hits the top when seated with top up, all other is fixable. |

I am 6'1" and have no trouble driving my TD at all. It is a RH Drive, early model TD and does not have the pedal extensions fitted. I have adjusted the accellerator pedal towards the fire wall but still allowing Heel/toe driving. The major improvement was to fit a 15" diameter steering wheel, and adjust the steering column position as close to the dashboard as possible, to allow clearance to the drivers legs which are still bent upwards. I have not moved my seat back at all but would suggest that if you did this you would be about as comfortable as I am given the difference in our heights. |
