MG TD TF 1500 - I hate getting old
I installed the freshly painted steering column tube and the column in the TD today. Then I realized I forgot the end cap for the column tube. The one that is attached by three tiny screws and nuts.
Ok, that I can deal with. But now I forgot where I put the end cap after I painted it. I probably have spent 1/10 of the time on this restoration looking for tools and parts that I misplaced. And, I do have bins with parts inventoried. That helps, but I still tend to set things down and forget where I put them. |

And, you think you are Robinson Crusoe on this adventure? |

You remembered why you went into the garage? You are ahead of me! |

Bruce. If you can’t find them I likely have a column you can rob parts from here at the house Bill Chasser TD-4834 |

I am so glad that I am not the only one who seems to spend more time looking for stray parts or tools than the time I spend in restoration. Jim |

Thanks All. It is nice to know I am in such good company. I had a good day in the shop today. I found the misplaced part. I got the steering shaft in place (and remembered to put in the lower felt). Reattached the toolbox lid, screwed down the side curtain box, and even replaced a leaking pressure switch on my air compressor. |

The secret to this is to have a younger spouse who you can call on to find anything in seconds that you have looked hours for. :-) |

My wife finds everything I lose in the garage. And it helps that she knows what most of the tools and parts are! The downside is that she knows what the parts are called that I need to work on. I'm currently instructed to replace the ignition switch in her MGA, and fix the clutch linkage in her Morris. Careful what you wish for when looking for a "car gal" to marry. |

Just what make you so special??? I even lost a car in a parking lot once. I did find it after 2 hrs. of searching. Cheers Gary 79 MGB |

Gary I went to the car park one night, unlocked my B with my key, jumped in started it up, thought that's running a bit quiet, drove out the carpark and went to turn the radio on and it didn't have one--bit weird, pulled up and got out for a look at the car and it had std. wheels as well--hmmm ,drove back to the carpark ,parked and locked the car and ahh there was my car 3 cars along, got in him and drove home--Probably should have kept the other one it was in better nick than mine--- |

Nearly called the police before it occurred to me that I could be on the wrong level of the car park. Left a clubnight meeting and unlocked my MG1100 in the dark, started the car and then wondered why I had a different steering wheel LOL. |

Lost my Buick in the Charlotte outer long term parking lot. Had OnStar. Tried to use that to find it. Finally called OnStar and was told OnStar stops after a week. I'd been gone for ten days. Called security and was driven around for 30 minutes punching the trunk release button. No joy. Ultimately discovered that I was not in lot S but was in lot P. Had my boss with me. He was unimpressed. Jud |

The Sacramento airport using airport transfers tunbridge wells (used to?) records the stall and license plate nightly to subvert people getting a new ticket after parking days. I am sure lots (all?) of airports do that. So you just need to contact the parking group and they can tell you exactly where you parked your car.
BTW my father, at about the same age as I am, thought his car was stolen too and reported it to the police as stolen. Then later that night it was 'discovered' in a different parking lot at the same location. He had changed is pattern that day and left the car in a unusual spot and then forgot it. |

I used to do a lot of airport travel sometimes two to three times a month. I was having the problem of finding my car. Walking up the isles pushing the panic button on my key ring. I learned to snap a picture of the row I parked in on my phone. |

Used Bruce’s method at Disney World, grabbed a picture of a nearby post and the tram boarding point. I got hone do it worked. |
