MG TD TF 1500 - I know we all like a challenge
Another MG TD on e-bay. This one is listed as a trailer queen and the owner says "THIS IS ONE FOR THE PERSON THAT DEMANDS PERFECTION" http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MG-T-Series-ROADSTER-1951-MG-T-D-TRAILER-QUEEN_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ31858QQihZ018QQitemZ280065342273QQrdZ1 It is very nice, and far above my own TD but I notice Horn/dip is in the wrong location. Dash switches are wrong Key is in the wrong location Extra guage (I am guessing a temp guage and something else) in dash Power plugs on dash in wrong place Extra holes in firewall by fuel pump Wire and temp tube running through the firewall Brass ID plates. Tail pipe is aftermarket. steering wheel aftermarket Has a 9 pin regulator. I thought 9 pin ended around car 8100, but that could just be the "use what you have left over, Abington effect" Any concourse judges out there? What would these deduct off the car? Others find anything else? |

Pretty spirited early bidding. Center dash panel totally incorrect of course as you said. Bottom row of switches/lights arranged for RHD car, incorrect center panel carriage bolt color too. But, I'd love to have that curved grab handle :-) Larry |

Black tonneau means black top/curtains? |

"Black tonneau means black top/curtains?" Not necessarily Gordon. We have a black tonneau and tan top and side curtains. There's no accounting for taste. Cheers - Dave |

Added to the list already posted: For a true concours car, The grille bars should be painted to match the interior not the body color. Black tops and tonneaus were never "standard" on TD's from the factory. All cars were supplied with a tan (ugly shade) "duck" material. For a concours car, the steering is a Bluemels which was not offered on a TD. It was an after market accessory and if you're going for a true 100 point concours car (as it came from the factory) points would be deducted. There are probably more things on the underside for true 100 popint car but. . . . I'm too old to get down under there anymore. In my Concours judging experiance the youngest guy gets to do the undercarriage. And that's not me. George Herschell |

"tan (ugly shade) duck".... hey... wait a minute!!!! |

Other than the dash disaster and top color it looks really nice and correct from the pictures. Certainly a lot nicer than a lot of what has been out there. George |

George I am in total agreement, this one is well above mine, but the point is that it is being offered as a correct TD. My issue with these is if you are building a "Trailer Queen" going the little extra to research and get every detail as correct as you can is not that difficult. For this car, A new (correct) instrument panel, correct steering wheel, correct paint for grill, filing the holes in the firewall, getting the correct material for the tonneau. would not have been that much more. These are the things that seperate a true concors car. Of course it would not be that much for someone to change these. |

Certainly a pretty car, but I agree with George that the grill slats should match the interior. One nice feature is that (for once!) the beading DOES match the paint colour. However I'd scrap that tacky exhaust outlet and would replace the Moss 'Taiwan' Brooklands wheel for a real (Kimbal) one. I have no idea what the reserve is, but I have a sneaky suspicion, that it won't be met! ... wonder if it runs?? Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Bruce, that is true- it does clearly say it is for someone who demands perfection. It doesn't meet that bill in my opinion at all. You have to wonder if they did most everything else so well, what happened with the dash. Likely close to a grand to fix the dash, the exhaust tip is like ugly! George |
