MG TD TF 1500 - I need some help with a wiper motor

Since I really drive the TF in all kinds of weather I'd like to upgrade the wiper motor. I have a late two speed MGB wiper motor I'd like to use but it has a sweep of 125 degrees. I also have a couple of A motors with 120 dgrees of sweep and I believe that Spridgets have 105 degrees of sweep. I need to find a replacement plate to put in the B motor that has a 90 degree sweep. Does anybody have any idea where I might source one.

After spending a lot to make mine run correctly I use Raines and foget the mtr. It does very good.

LaVerne, talk to Gerry Felper at British Auto Electric. http://www.britishautoelectric.com/ he rebuilds everything, he even built a check rig to test how many gal per hour the fuel pumps will pump after rebuilding.

Be careful here. "Degrees of sweep" is dependent on both travel of the rack and number of teeth in the wheelbox. Rack travel (inches) is determined by the gear in the motor, which are marked (as travel = degrees) to match the corresponding wheelbox. There are at least two series of wheelboxes, with different tooth count; "degrees of sweep" will change if you use a different wheelbox than the motor was designed for. They changed about the time of the MGA/MGB change; The change may correspond to the square/round motor change. I think that the early wheelbox had more teeth than the later, so your MGB gears may give less sweep than the marking.

It may be possible to rework a gear for any travel you need; I've often thought about it but never really checked feasibility. It is only a matter of the eccentric offset of the rack driving stud.

Thanks guys. My plan is to leave the TF motor in place and use the B motor hidden under the dash. Don't really need to change the gear in the motor. The pin plates are removeable and that is what I'd need a smaller sweep . Did a test a year or two back with the B motor and it's just way to much sweep. Didn't seem to be any issues with wheel box mesh. Looks like 90 is about all I can do. I drove a lot of miles last year and sometimes in all day rain and the TF wiper just doesn't cut it. Hope to do as much or more again this year and definatley want something better that whats in there now. If worst comes to worse I can butcher up one of the MGA plates at an attempt to get what I'm looking for but I'd prefer a "plug and play" solution. I've looked at the one off the B and I'm sure it has to be a welded in pin but I just don't see any indication of it on the back side.

I do the rainX also but it only lasts so long when your driving all day and washing the screen at every fuel stop.

Drive faster, get a bigger fuel tank (trailer full of gas). ;-)!

Seriously ...never tried/installed one, but recall seeing aftermarket "intermitten wiper kits" back in the 60's & early 70's on a number of cars. Wonder if they still make those?
I haven't looked at a JC Whitney catalog in years!
