MG TD TF 1500 - Instrument Switch Bezel Original on TF
I am restoring the TF which I owned since 1973. If someone has an original TF I need the following info which I can't find in any books. Are the chrome nuts which hold the switches on the dash, all the same? On my TF the Park and Auxillary bezels are a little smaller than a dime and flat on top. The light switch has one slightly larger - a dime or more, and is beveled down, not flat. And the choke and starter I do not have here and can't describe. If any of you have your car as it came from factory, can you help me out? Thanks, Keith in NJ |

You need to adress this question to Colin Stafford. Mr. original MG TF. |

All the chrome switch and choke faces are the same size and appearance, the only difference is that the lights and auxilliary switches (L,P and A) are slotted. (From my unrestored car) Cheers Matthew. |

Hi Keith, Matthew M is spot on correct. The Starter and 3 Stage Choke Cable round 'bezels'(no slots) are of course an integral part of the outer cable unit with the affixing nut coming from behind the instrument panel. Perhaps sometimes there are slight differences in switch bezel diameters re re-linishing by platers. Cheers for now. Rob.Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Thanks for the comments guys! Looks like I will have to look for one flat bezel for my headlights, as I don't think anyone sells them. If anyone has one from an old switch to sell, let me know! Keith |

Rob Grantham is spot on, but he forgot to mention that like the knock-off hubs, on right hand drive cars (like OZ), these nuts thread the other way. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

For what its worth.....all my chrome bezels are identical, 3/4", with slotted design. None of then have ever been removed from the dash.

Colin, I dropped your pic into Photoshop and unless I'm wrong, I can't see any slots on your choke and starter pulls. It appears that your belzels are like mine and those of Rob. Grantham. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Oop's...ancient and tired eyes did'nt see the missing slots. I stand corrected.....any way you got the picture. soory |

Rob Grantham - can't believe my eyes - I was looking thru my post here - you are the guy I just bought some TF accessory parts from Australia! Small world. Keith |

Hi Keith, Also just realised you and I have both commented on BBS ! In the last day or two I have been looking in my garage for the TF bezel that you were after. After nearly giving up (I suspected I had 1 spare somewhere !)today reached in to the last likely box-Bingo ! The bezel is a good one,no rechroming really required and sharp slots.Tried it on a TF light switch, went on perfectly. I am going to include the bezel(gratis)in your 'package'that will be sent off tomorrow.Pleasure to help. Cheers for now. Rob.Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |
