MG TD TF 1500 - John Brickell's TF runs again!! - video
This weekend John, and I along with some of his "followers" were on hand for the first start up of his rolling chassis since he started his tear down for full nut and bolt restoration. Below is the video of this happening as well as some shots of the proud man who made it all happen. Congratulations John! You've reached a major mile stone in your restoration and are on the way to saving another MG for future generations. I'm proud of you and glad to have been of service thus far. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m65ucK8UWJA Alex PS: So what's up for next weekend? A lawn chair tour of the cul-de-sac perhaps? |

Looks very nice ...just curious, why the green engine paint? |

Not sure when John will be on to answer, but I'll pipe up. He wanted it to approximate/match the BRG of the body and engine compartment at the end of the resto. Alex |

Yes, we had success after a couple of "issues" that needed resolving. Without Alex's help and trouble-shooting, we wouldn't have had the success we did. In a day or two I will post a "complete" video more along the lines of Ed Haskell's posting of his start-up. Speaking of whom, I want to thank Ed and Dave Braun for their very helpful instructions and suggestions on the set up to make this work. So, Dave Seward you noticed the none traditional dark BRG paint on the engine, eh? Well, being the contrarian I can be at times, I decided that, for me, I wanted the engine paint to match the TF's eventual body paint, which will be dark BRG. Not traditional I know, but it's what I wanted. Just don't "kick me off the Island", as I enjoy participating on this BBS ;>) Cheers, and I'll let folks know when my video is posted -- John |

Sorry Dave, I know it's "Sheward", just typing to fast.... |

John, Kind thought that might be why (BRG paint). For the record ...I kind of like it, different. Next video ...seat & steering wheel / Road test? |

Well Dave, Alex wants me to attach a lawn chair to the floorboard and zoom off around the neighborhood. If that happens I will post a video. Have to first figure out how to link a cable to run the carbs. I have just finished a video of a complete intro, description, and start-up of the engine. I will post tonight or tomorrow. In some way instructional, but a bit anti-climatic after yesterday. For one, there's no video of one of yesterday's attempts at start-up when we saw smoke (shades of Lucas) coming out of the distributor cap, and when the cap was removed we looked down at a glowing red hot, no kidding, metal piece that holds the points. Wow, that got our attention. Obviously, a wiring problem. Luckily, Alex saw the problem and made the correction. Cheers -- John |

Dave, I'm workin' on him. I've already picked out the lawn chair from his collection and told him how to quickly, yet securely attach it to the chassis for testing. I'm guessing before the month is up, there will be a video! Alex |
