MG TD TF 1500 - Just a couple of questions..
Guys: On a TF 3 bow top...does the rear most bow (the one held on with nuts and bolts) fit on the inside of the tops vertical struts without any compression? When I took that bow off to paint, it kinda springs open wider than when held in place between the verticals with the hardware. I don't see any reason why it should not just fit in place without compression...but then again...the little car and its designs do suprise one every now and then. Second question....I've developed a very very small dripping of fuel from, I assume, the fuel pump. I replaced it with a new one 5 years ago or so. I think it might be coming from the fittings and all they need it a little tightening...but does anyone know if the pump may be prone to leaking internally? Just thought I'd ask before crawling under the car to look. Thanks, Jim |

Jim - I will pass on the top question, but the fuel pump leak could be fittings needing tightening, coil housing to pump body need tightening or the fuel line to tank couping needing tightening. A 5 year old pump should not be leaking internally. In all the years I have been working on fuel pumps, I have seen very few (as in could count on the fingers of one hand) diaphragms develop a leak, especially one that is only 5 years old. You might try loosening the nut for the fuel line where it connects to the pump (this may dribble fuel - especially the inlet line) and see if the fitting in the pump body is a bit loose. Often the fitting in the pump body becomes loose when people try to loosen the fuel line nut without holding the fitting in place with another wrench. Cheers - Dave |
