MG TD TF 1500 - Just an update on TD # 9747
It's been a productive summer for TD # 9747. Frame is sanded, wire brushed, painted and I think it looks good. Brakes need to be reassembled but I have all the parts except a couple front brake cylinders. I teach high school and school starts next week, so progress will be slower but constant. My engine needs new rod cap bolts and I'm still considering my options there. I wanted to have engine started before school opens this year, but I'm shooting for Labor Day now. Thanks for all the great help from everyone. There is simply no way to restore these things without everyone's years of experience and expertise. |

Sid - Good to hear about the progress. Slow but constant is good (whenever I get impatient, I screw thing up). Regarding the front brake cylinders, if you have the old ones, they can be sleeved so that they are reusable. If you don't have the old ones, I think that I have a couple that you could have sleeved if you need them. Cheers - Dave |

Sid, -- If you are going to have to sleeve front cylinders have it done with syainless steel not brass! The aluminum die-casting and brass sleeve is a receipe for electrolytic corrosion. If you need an address for a shop that can do it let me know. Cheers, Bob |

Bob, you are technically right. However, I had my front cylinders brass sleeved at least 10 years ago and they have not been touched since. Any sleeve is better than the crummy, corroding original metal, especially in a hot, damp climate like we have here. George |
