MG TD TF 1500 - Just saying,Hi!!

Hi all.
Just thought I would introduce myself as I am restoring a 1954 mgtf1500.
My names Dave,"aka Pilkie",and I am in the UK near Bristol
Ive been into classic for 36yrs since leaving school.
I have had the odd modern car,the last being a 1999 Jaguar XK8 last year while I did a 3 month repaint, refurb of my daily driver of the last 12 yrs,my 1971 Rover P6V8.
Very nice but just not me,so I sold it.
Am currently restoring a 1954 MGTF1500.
I would like to post a link or pics to the resto story but this forum format isnt very user friendly!!??
If this link works, you can read about it here.
Cheers all.

Dave,
These instructions should help you to add (upload) oictures,,

And yes, there is a 5 minute time limit to make any changes or to delete a posting,,,

Just below the box that you add your comment in, find and click on the word Upload (underlined)
That will open another small window with a button called “Browse…”
Click on that Browse button, and find the folder with the picture that you want to upload. Click on the picture, (JPG’s Only) then click on “Open” and the location will appear in the box next to “Browse”
Click “Submit” and it should appear with your comments.
You will get a message that says
“Thank you, your file (FILE NAME.jpg) was successfully uploaded.”
Close the window
Then click “submit” to submit your mressage

If you get a message that the file is too large, use one of the many “Image Resizer Sites’ available on the internet to make your file smaller.

Hope this helps,,

Nice P6B Jasper!!

Thanks SPW.

Seen that,,,still not very user freindly,as it doesnt display pics in line with a story like on most, what I would call normal forum formats..like in the above Classicrover link!
Obviously this forum is not used enough to warrant a better format for the users!
Where is THE best place to go for a MG forum, and especially 1950's TF chat and advice,as ive not found one that works anything like the Rover,or the TR Register ones I use??
Dave Pilkington

Dave, this is the best site for t series cars especially TD/TF's. You will not find a better source for information than here.
Tom Maine (TD8105)

Thanks,
I will just have to try and get used to it then!!

Welcome Dave, you will find this forum very active. Most posts will elicite a response within a few hours at the most. You can view pictures in line, but that is not the default. To change the settings click on the "customise" link at the top of the page, then scroll down to the option for viewing pictures in line, select the option and save the settings. Look forward to seeing your progress with the TF. Regards Matt

Hello Dave . Welcome.... I regard myself as a new comer to B.B.S as well.It has been an great experience drawing on the good-will ,experience of so many knowledgeable people in the M.G. industry. With time you will become acquainted with many of these people. I'm currently in the final stages of re-conditioning a T.F.( off the Frame { and offer what ever assistance I can provide . Pilkie,

That color of red is very nice. What is it?

Welcome Pilkie!

As others have said, this is THE forum for TD -TF MGs.

I have been on the road for three seasons with my 1954 TF 1500, US export produced 13-15 October 1954, reimported to Europe in the nineties.

Risking to repeat myself on this board, a five speed conversion is the best thing to do with a TF. I would rather have a five speed XPAG than a four speed XPEG.

Jan

Pilkie, welcome and congrats to the choice of car. Just looked at your series of pics, still a lot of work to be done despite the good substance. And things like upholstery and top can eat up quite some funds.
Unusual to see a TF with disc wheels, you might think of converting to wires.
Looking forward to seeing pics on the various stages of the project!

Hi Rob.

The colour is RD06 Autumn red,as close to original as possible!
Done is solid 2pack "no lacquer",the finish is excellent and has great depth of shine that will only improve with polish and waxing!

Hi Jan.

Due to the original XPEG engine not being with the car,I have fitted a 1970's MG midget 1500tc recon eng/box the gearing should be sufficient for it.
At least it sort of keeps it in the family,"Triumph engine I know",but it looks the part, and is a near perfect fit!!

Hi Mike.

Wont take long to refit the already repainted body panels, fit a new loom and the electrics.
Floor panels are ready to fit, lower firewalls done and on.
A full retrim kit is already on order, the most complicated bit being recovering the seats,as the rest is childs play!
Fortunately I have a mate in the upholstery business who will lend a hand if I need it.
Will be going with aero screens and a tonneau for now,and may or may not do the full hood set up,as I dont intend using it if theres the slightest hint of any wet weather!!
Will not be converting to wires,as I dont like them.
