MG TD TF 1500 - LA times news article includes 54TF
FYI - The following appeared in the Los Angeles times March 24, 2004: "What revs the souls of vintage car fans? Dean Kruse knows his collectibles, from new models to 100-year-old rarities. A '54 MG? Not a bad idea. But you might want to pass on that K-Car. Dean Kruse keeps close tabs on what's hot and what's not in the collectible car trade. That's because his firm, Kruse International of Auburn, Ind., is involved in auctioning such cars just about every week...... ....1954 MG TF Roadster: A very popular car. The MG ushered in a new era of sports cars in the U.S. Even with the Corvette in production, the MG continued to be popular. $13,000 to $17,000; will go up 15% to 20% this year." Terry Interesting article. Recently noticed a letter to the editor in a new magazine dedicated to collector car values. The writer was inquiring as to when the TF would fetch 100k at auction. It seems that years back Frank Churchill of the New England MGT register had mentioned in an article that the mgtf was destined to become quite collectible and could increase in value to that amount. The writer had invested 40K in a ground up restoration of his 54 TF 1500 an was dissappointed that the cars are only bringing 20 to 25 K at auction. The editor commented that the TF 1500 with 3400 built had a high production number! Gads not much hope for my 1250 as the gigantic number of 6200 were produced!!!The editor felt that our cars would remain within the 25 to 35K range for some time to come. As to production numbers I have been searching out TFs for the past 4 years creating a register of EXISTING cars. To date I have 891 accounted for around the globe plus another 40 found listed in old copies of the NEMGT registers Sacred Octogon magazine from the 1970s which I have yet to confirm are still up and running. The point is not how many cars were produced but rather how many still exist when one thinks of values. I would doubt more than 50% of the original run are still around. Any TF owners out there who havent seen my TF register yet drop me a line and I will email you the file...makes for interesting reading. |

Jeff The MGCC has 1804 TF's on its worldwide T register. Not many considering how long the register has been going. John |
