MG TD TF 1500 - Last ride of the season?
Took her out for a ride this afternoon. Beautiful weather, sunny, temp around 0 Celsius. Probably her last ride of the season... Jasper |
Jasper L Nederhoed |
Me too Jasper. I had my last ride in my TF yesterday, but not by choice. I was going to the US to do some food shopping, and was just pulling out of the US Customs station, when there was a loud 'bang' and the car stopped suddenly. I looked underneath only to see a clutch rod sticking into the pavement. They pushed me so I could coast back to Canada Customs, where I begged a piece of wire which held the rod off the ground, and I coasted back down the hill to my home. I'm just too lazy to undertake a repair so it will have to stay like that for the winter! It will slumber in my garage with 4 other MGs (TD, '64 midget, PA and my daughter's latest adventure - the "Union Jack '79 MGB - see picture). Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Supposed to be 63f. in Ohio tomorrow, I think a little ride is coming on! Bill |

Gordon, Well...at least it was at the end of the season...and close to home! Put the B & TD up last week...always a sad part of the year...won't see them until April 4th... |
Bob Dougherty |
Gordon, That is such a sad story. I feel oddly sad after reading, "I begged a piece of wire", "and I coasted back down the hill to my home". It sounded like the sad ending to a childrens book. Do you need a hug?:) Rob |

I hope to go for a ride today. Expected to be a balmy 65 degrees here in Northern NJ. Gordon your comment on "coasting" back from the US, had me looking at a map. You are only blocks away from the US border! |

What a bad luck Gordon and lucky for you that you could go downhill. Was this the car that you made a redesigned clutch mechanism for? I remember you once mentioned a system with bearings instead of holes with pins. greetings, huib |
Huib Bruijstens |
Huib, Yes, but I got old in the process and it became a "mañana" project (got lots of those!). Now I need to find someone who can do it for me. But I will definitely install a turnbuckle, when I repair it in the spring. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Last drive of the season ? It probably was! Not much fun today; driving through the fog with the hood on. Only bad luck I had was that the wipers quit working. Ah well.... Nick, TD3232 |

Nick, Beauty of a car and, I love those cobblestones! Jerry |
Jerry Chandler |
Nick, fog or no-fog, your car is beautiful. Bill |
Bill Brown |
Nick, Beautiful pic! Such a small country and yet great differences in weather conditions. Here in the north a very shiny day. So I took her again for a ride. No hood. It was cold out there. So when I got home I ordered hand gloves... |

Thank you all for your kind comments. It's indeed hard to believe my car was restored more than thirty years ago ! Obiously the previous owner did a great job (it won an International MG Concours in the eighties) ! There are some issues to resolve though... Jasper, I'm in the South-west part of the country, about two miles from the Belgian border and usually that fog comes in straight from the Northsea. As for the cobble stones: only a few miles left of them (fortunately !) and only on secondary roads. They are popularly known here as "kinderkopjes" or "children's heads". Nick, TD3232 |

Nick, I am in the north-east of the country, 20 miles from the German border. At the moment it's also foggy here and yes, that fog comes straight from the sea. But in our case from the Waddenzee ;-) Jasper I took this pic yesterday. Seems a bit like fog but actually it's the sun shining in the lens... |

This may have been the last drive of the season, although, I will make every effort to get out again. This picture was taken this afternoon. The backdrop is the majestic Hudson River and the Tappan Zee Bridge in the far distance. The picture was taken in Piermont, NY. It was a wonderful drive with another TD and a Triumph Spitfire.

I took no picture but yesterday morning going to the annual pre-55 MG partsday, I drove my gray YA through that fog..... With those little rear lamps I was NOT comfortable. |

Great work Bobby ! Looks so much better in black and white. Thanks !!! Nick, TD3232 |

Lazarus by Plymouth, Mass. waterfront today (11/14/11). That's Mayflower II in background. Lazarus doesn't get put away for the winter. I try to have him out at least once per month. Bud

Glad you like it Nick. It's quite easy at www.picnik.com. They have a number of effects that one can apply. It's fun to play with. Black and white with some pics of these cars seems to take them back to the day. Cheers!!! BobbyG |

Hoping not to overstay my visit, Here's another example of what can be done at picnik.com in about a minute. BobbyG |

Nick, I have a directory in my computer where I keep nothing but pictures of fine MGs. (y’know, like my personal Portrait Gallery!). The pic of TD3232 on the "kinderkopjes", is now included. That’s a great pic in the fog. When I was running Nokia Canada (back in the ‘80s), I liked to fly to Rotterdam, pick up a car and drive to Antwerp for company meetings. I probably wasn’t too far from you. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

We had a motorkhana on Sunday and a friend took this picture of me. A lot of fun sliding about on the sandy surface there. Matthew. |
Matthew Magilton |
Matthew... I'm so jelous that you guys have those gravel gymkahnas down there. I have a shot of you at full left lock with the loud pedal on 11 in full oversteer. The right hand front suspension is likely on the bump stop as you round the cones. F*$#kin awesome! I wish there was an event for me to toss my TF about like that. Such fun! Alex |

Bobby, Thanks for another great image; highly artistic this one ! Gordon, You're very close; Antwerp is about 60 miles to the East of were I live. We're just below the river Scheldt in a part of Holland which owes much to the people of Canada. After a fierce battle our area was liberated by the First Canadian Army under Gen. Simonds in Oktober/November 1944. http://wwii.ca/content-47/world-war-ii/the-battle-of-the-scheldt/ Nick, TD3232 |

I hope to drive my TD all through the winter. He has a heater and as long as there is no brine on the roads I drive it. Cheers, David..... |
