MG TD TF 1500 - Leaking Carburettor
Just finished repairing the fuel pump and now the front carb leaks until the float bowl is empty (ignition off) Where to start looking?????? / what is likely the cause Thanks in advance Clive |

Clive, I would start with the washers on either side of the float bowl mounting bolt. numbers 3 & 4 on this diagram. http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=32749 Good luck! Evan |

Clive, The float bowl to carb body connection is the low point. I had a leak once in the filled hole (peened shut with a pin) which was the access for drilling the hole which went from the float bowl, through the arm of the float bowl, allowing fuel to go to the carburetor body. Some people fit the MGA style neoprene gasket and bolt set to secure the float bowls to the carbs, mine's been that way for 25 years. http://www.mysteryship.photosite.com/MGTDRebuild/carburetors/carb_float_bowl_leaks_at_plug_for_transverse_hole.html The jets can also leak if you don't soak the cork gland seal in oil. Some folks are using teflon seals kits. warmly, dave |

Any chance the carbs have been out of service for a while? I aske b/c it seems like every year after the 1st couple runs mine leak, but before long (1 week or so) they stop through no involvement of mine. I'm convinced it's a gasket issue, and that enough fuel running over them solves the issue. It has done this 3 years running. |
