MG TD TF 1500 - LED bulbs for TD tail lamps?
Does anyone supply a plug in LED "bulb" for the tail lamps of a TD? Would need to be suitable for positive ground and have a low brightness for running lamps and a higher brightness for stop lamps. And what about the single filament bulbs for the front fender mounted side lamps? |

Yes. Only thing is the "tower" type LED's sit too low in the socket and most of the light produced is blocked by the socket shield. They are available from Super Bright LED's. Make sure you get red ones for the rear. #1157-18R They work with pos. grd. |

I got a VERY acceptable pair at Auto Zone for $19.00 for the pair. Direct replacement for the standard bulb and well up to the task. |

Lew, are you neg. earth? If pos, did you have to do any wire jiggering? Thanks. Jud |

All the dual intensity ones I see on the Super Bright LEDs site as replacement for the 1157 seem to be shown as polarity sensitive. I do not find one under the 1157-18R number. When you say they sit too low in the socket is that for the later round style TD tail lamps or the earlier rectangular lens type? My car has no turn signals so the flasher requirement is not an issue. |

I'm thinking the Litezupp.com bulbs. I put these in my TF and they work great right out of the box. Positive ground and all. The issue you may run into is any ground connections that are loose my cause a problem. The incandescent bulbs draw a lot of current and simply jump these connection problems. The LED uses much less juice. PETER 54TF |

John, my car has the rectangular tail lights. I am not familiar with the round ones used in the later TD. (they may work well in that application). In the rectangular lights the socket for the bulb sits lower, and their is the shield that is place that holds the socket. I found a number of the LEDs were below this shield and it is the shield that blocks the light. Bulb# from invoice 1157-x18-T:1157 led bulb- Dual intensity 18 SMD LEDTower - 1157-R18-T:Red These are not polarity sensitive. |

C. R. We may have a communication problem but when I bring up the info for the "1157 LED Bulb - Dual Intensity 18 SMD LED Tower" it shows it is, polarity sensitive, "yes". Here is the link that shows the item: https://www.superbrightleds.com/search/led-products/1157-r18/ So, I am still confused. |

Me too, cause I have them in the car and they work really nicely in the MGA, and it is positive ground. I bought them on the recommendation of Superbright. |
