MG TD TF 1500 - Light lube/di-electric or nothing for light switch
All: I bought a new dash mounted light switch from Abingdon (2 position) for the parking lights/headlights. The one I had finally gave up the ghost. The new switch is definitely firmer, which is expected, but before I install it, is it recommended to lube any of the internal mating/sliding surfaces or just install it dry and as is? Cheers! Jim |

Jim - If you use anything, it should be dielectric grease and then only a very thing coating. Cheers - Dave |

Jim The parking light switch in my TF was difficult to operate. Probably corrosion, crud, and worn-off plating. I sprayed with CRC QD Electronic Cleaner, then applied some Permatex Dielectric Grease onto the moving surfaces. Works like new. Your new switch should have smooth plating and be properly lubed if needed at the Twianese factory (?) Lonnie TF7211 |

Thanks guys...I did apply a little di-electric lube and there is also an adjustment screw on the new one (might be one on the old switch but I have not removed it yet) that you can vary pressure on the detent spring/ball. I did a slight adjustment there as well, and the new switch works like a charm....now the fun of laying upside down in the foot-well and trying to get the old one out and the new one in. Regards, Jim |
