MG TD TF 1500 - Looking for a TF 1500 fixer

I'm trying to find a TF1500 that needs work or possibly an abandoned restoration. Don't quite have the money to get a car that's all together. Can anyone help me find one? Thank you.

Am in the same boat myself, Don.

But could I suggest perhaps re-doing your sums... quite often the cost of replaceing/refurbishing the missing & non-original parts in your "needs work" target might add up to more than the ask on a more suitable example.

Depends on what end result you're after, but from my calcs buying a basket case is always dearer than a whole restored vehicle.

Am looking for a TF-1800 kit car in any condition. I do NOT want to make it a fake original, but to approximate the MG-TF I had in the sixties, with 375 hp Corvette power. Any leads will be greatly appreciated!

As of today (5/30/02), there's a restorable TF on eBay located in Santa Rosa. Car's been stored since 1963, appears mostly all there minus some engine parts. Definately a restorable project for the right person - reserve price is around $9500, I think.

It's probably not a good time to mention that 1 1/2 years ago, I bought a project '55 TF-1500 project car in condition similar to the car being sold on E-Bay above. I paid $3500... Maybe mine had a few more miles on it, since it had been sitting in a storage shed only 10 years instead of 30+.

Which is to say, that good deals on project cars are out there, but you may have to wait a long time and cast a wide net, and be ready to hop on a deal when offered.

Of course, the thing will probably end up costing me well over $20K by the time I'm done with it, which should be another couple of years. The average 'restored' TF has been going for much less than $20K on E-Bay, and probably even better than that in private sales.

So, the older restoration is definately the way to go to save money. Even someone gave you a project car for nothing, you would have to spend more than what you could pay for an older restoration to get it restored. But if you enjoy the work, and have the pride of doing it yourself, then it's worthwhile.

And no, my TF 1500 is NOT for sale! I hope to be driving it next spring and summer ...

P.S. Gary's deal in Waco, if still available, is a much better than the car on E-Bay. Waco is only an hour away from me. I'm tempted, but my garage is already full of MGs.
