Looks great but maybe too much wood for some "purists" out there. Wasn't that centre piece flat black with the chrome trim around it? |
R Murray |
Way too much for me.The center in wood detractc from the beauty of the rest. Sandy |

Hard to judge what the gauges/knobs/kite will look like. Suspect too much dark grain. But it''s what YOU see and like! Randy |

Ok bronze it is. |

Bronze is my vote. I think you have too much wood there LaVerne but really I was not looking. |

Yeah thats what she said! I still want pictures. |
LaVerne Downey |
Mighty fine piece of wood, though! |
Carl Floyd |
I agree, too much wood. Plus the burls don't match! Ditch it! |

I vote "too much wood"....But I think black would look better than bronze. I know it's "not correct" but then neither is the wood. I think because the car is black it would look sharp. You going wood steering wheel on this one? If going "tan" wheel that would tie in with bronze dash plate? If wood I think black. |

Not giving up on that mental image are ya! |

Laverne, I think before a decision becomes final, I would finish the cutouts and temporarily install all the gauges. It sure is a handsome finish to our TD dash panels. As was pointed out, you came this far and this is really becoming RR quality. Try it and SEE! |

Laverne, I went through the same exercise, and even painted a spare dash panel with black wrinkle finish before installation. I played with both. I ended up with a tan panel, as I thought it would cause less confusion during judging. I have since changed my wheel, and I may still change the panel to black. Here is a photo that I photoshopped" some black in for comparison. |

Dallas, for years my TD had a black wrinkle finish center panel. The downside was that when you detailed the chrome parts, any wax or chrome polish was impossible to remove from the wrinkle paint. George |

Good tip,George - Thanks Dallas |

Thanks to everybody for their imput. I might do the cut outs and a temp install of the hardware and see what it looks like. Will be a bit as I'm still working on the glove box door trim. Also picked up the last piece of chrome from the platers yesterday (center dash panel) and see that I'll have to do some work on some of the openings as the gauges won't go in. Ignition , fog switch, horn ok. Haven't checked the sarter, choke or warning lights yet. Have a new reproduction stock wheel Dave but originally thought about swaping the fat boy off the TF. The walnut on the TF wheel is quite a bit lighter and a little more golden so not such a good match so I belive I'll stick with the rep wheel. Not a big fan of the black center panels myself and they are a pain to clean so most likely will be bronze. Again thanks to all. |

Laverne, I think you should do exactly what you want to do with it. It's not like you're bolting on the dash from a 92 Fiero... and you can always change it back. I'd love to see a picture of it fully done with all instruments installed! But where are you putting the walnut burl handcarved cupholders??? |
Geoff Baker |
Geoff, I guess I could cover this oak with some veneer. Not exactly hand carved. |
