MG TD TF 1500 - Looking to buy TD

Looking to buy a TD and have a few questions of what I should be looking for to ensure its worth what they are asking.

I have 4 pictures and I'm waiting for more. This is what I've been told.

"Body is excellent, very presentable ORIGINAL paint, pretty close to perfect underneath, perfect compression, no smoke, excellent gearbox, new top, very good original chrome, brakes now done, wiring excellent, has original air cleaner, crank, and even all of the original tools.

three owners since new, most of teh time in the US south
fairly new tan interior, tan top and tonneau.

Runs flawlessly, 140-145 psi compression in every cylinder, no smoke, excellent gearbox, expensive Nardi wood steering wheel, original chronometric tach and speedo, original King of the Road headlights, Chassis looks to be excellent, wood floors look new and have been nicely urethaned."

Asking $15,000

Any advice would be appreciated

From what can be seen from the pictures, that looks like a very well preserved car and a very early one, since it has the non ventilated wheels (originally called artillery wheels) - The wheels were changed to ventilated wheels at car #501 Jan. 20 1950 according to the information in the T Series Handbook. $15,000 sound very reasonable. Nothing jumps out as a big problem from the limited pictures. Best thing is to have someone that knows these cars go over it really well. There are likely NEMGT Register members in your area. Structural wood condition is crucial! The generator and tach drive are not original, which is not a big deal at all.

Compression is good though taped up top hose & fan possibly installed backwards (boss appears to be at the rear) could indicate possible overheating issues. Any chance of a test drive where you are or are you snow bound? Cheers

thanks for the info, apparently I was too slow, car is already sold in under 3 days...

I am not an expert.

It looks like the car was rewired. The wires are plastic not cloth covered wire. Not an issue, just for your information.

The Spark plug ends are not original.

There is something funny about the passenger side door. Looks like tape over the pocket.

I know it doesn't matter at this point but I just can't stand it when people say cars are original when clearly they are not. New interior, top, floors, nardi wheel yada yada yada! Cars is far from perfect underneath and the sheet metal is certainly rusty. Cars that are truly untouched/ unmolested are original in my mind and would command a very high price in my opinion were they to be in good condition. I doubt that their are over 50 that would live up to that This is a car that has had upgrades and refurbishments which don't detract from the presentation but it's certainly not original.

BTB,
Where are you in Ct? You have defiatly found the best forum for info on TDs. I am in Canton, and might be able to assist if you want to look at one locally.

Is that Duck Tape on the upper radiator hose?

For the price. Not a bad car.

Also, be very cautious buying from a particular dealer in CT,with a less than stellar reputation but the gift for hyperbole. Unfortunately, his cars often turn out to be less, rather than more...

Steve,

I'm outside Hartford. I've been looking locally but haven't found anything. I've reached out to the Tom @ the British T shop, left a message for a few people that may have leads and haven't heard back yet. The cars at new England classic cars arent really what I'm looking for.

Looking for a Black or Autumn Red, so that narrows it down as well.

got my eye on this one now
