MG TD TF 1500 - loom routing ?

Trying to follow po routing for the loom and needed help. Thanks in advance. Po began inside the car pushing only the individual wires for the fuse box and control box through the hole for the loom. Seems like starting point would be the engine side pushing the main cloth-braided loom through to car side and keeping the individual wires on the engine side( I also have to add an 8 point relay and was going to try to put it under the dash - po used a stat 900 signal switch with duck tape). Currently, extension #1 is routed from inside to the front lights through the hole with the temp tube. This seems wrong b/c the heat needing to disapate from the tube would be limited at that point. Again if started on the engine side I would not have to do this. Extension #2 going to the master cyclinder and back lights is routed from the inside through a hole by the brake pedal -is this correct? All other extensions seem to be routed properly. Can anyone help or direct me to pics. Sorry so long.

Tim in VA. --- You did not mention whether you are rewiring a TD or a TF. If a TD we should also know about directional signals etc. From your description I am guessing that the PO did not route it correctly.

Keep us informed.

Sorry it is 1952 mg td mkii and I am going to have turn signals thus the 8 point relay. Po used a 900 stat turn signal arm that had the relay built inside of it.

Tim-
Schach's "Restoration Manual" has a good explanation of the wire routing plus some pictures. You start from inside the car and route most of the wires through the large grommeted hole on the left side of the firewall. The only large group of wires that stay in the interior are the end of wires with minimum number of terminals attached. This is the large bundle that ties to the dash. One branch that does not go through the left firewall hole is the one that penetrates at the right side of the firewall just below the fuel pumps. This branch has two large all brown wires that connect to the negative side of the starter switch. One other branch that stays inside are the wires for the flasher unit and the turn signal relay.

The wires for the rear of the car are routed down along side the firewall support pillar box. Some branch off at this point and go to the generator, and the front lights. Look at the wire coding to tell.

The rear wiring harness is routed along inside the frame rail, past the master cylinder (two wires) and back to the rear end.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys, I am now on the correct route(pun intended) and it is looking good.
