MG TD TF 1500 - Low beam...
Last fall I lost my driver's side low beam (not the bulb)... thought the problem might be in the rats nest of connectors running along the frame by the oil pump. Before I tore that apart i pulled the connectors (2) under the front fender (the headlight double wire)... had power to both the high and low beam wire. Had pulled the bulb holder (British pre focused P700s) and everything looked good. The wire seems fine between the connector and the headlamp (through the headlight bracket i can't see, but the wire seems in good shape)... am I missing something when I check the bulb socket? |

Gordon, I would get the light tester out and start at the socket and work my way back until I found juice. Then figure out where the break in the circuit is. LaVerne |

Gordon - You need to check the voltage at each connector while the bulb is installed and turned on. A high resistance at any one of the connections will test fine with only a 20,000 ohms per volt meter connected to it, but can drop a full 14 volts when the light is plugged in and drawing several amps of current. I had the same problem on our daughter's MGB for one of the turn signal lights at the front. I of course, jumped right on the ground which wasn't the problem. Finally I found the problem by probing the wires back the line with the turn signal turned on, until I finally found good voltage. Turned out to be a crimpped bullet connector gone bad. I suspect the bullet connector under the fender... have power at the one side but not past that... the connectors in the lamp housing are like brand new? Assume since I have a high beam, the ground is ok? |

Gordon, put down the tools and walk away from the car................... It was the bulb.... 2 hours, 2 bullet connectors and a very sore right hand later, I thought... 'oh, I will just check the bulb closely again'...!!!!!!!!! |

Gordon's words at this moment (I SEE THE LIGHT) or possibly something else. Joseph did it again. |
